Bill Glazier: 1964-1975, 395 apps

JIMMY HILL shocked the football world in October 1964 when he paid a world record fee of £35,000 for a goalkeeper and signed Bill Glazier from Crystal Palace.

It proved to be money well spent as Bill went on to give ten years service and, but for a broken leg in April 1965, he would have had a good chance of being selected for England's 1966 World Cup squad.

Glazier had already impressed City fans after his consistent displays for Palace in the promotion battles of 1963-64 and within a month of joining City he won the first of three England under 23 caps when he appeared in the 5-0 win over Romania at Highfield Road.

In April 1965 he broke his leg in a collision with Manchester City's Glyn Pardoe at Maine Road.

He was out for almost a year but when he returned he was soon back to his best.

Bill was a key member of the 1967 promotion team but saved his best displays for the early seasons of struggle in the top flight, saving City from heavy defeats on a regular basis.

He was City's first choice keeper until the end of 1973-74 season when he lost his place to Neil Ramsbottom. In 1975 he joined Brentford but injuries forced him to give up the game soon after.
