This is   an account of his time at Accrington
George Hudson had managed just four games as a reserve centre-forward at Blackburn R. towards the end of 1958-59, prior to the arrival of Derek Dougan. Signed on a free transfer in the 1960 close-season, he teamed up with another ex-Rovers forward Jackie Swindells, and became an instant hit at Peel Park. Scoring on his debut (albeit in a 2-9 defeat) he went on to equal George Stewarts record of 35 League goals in his first season, Swindells contributing another 17. After 11 games the following term Stanley were forced to sell him to Peterborough U., and although the 5,000 transfer fee was much-needed the transfer ripped the heart out of the attack. Swindells had already left in the summer, and without Hudson's aerial prowess the Stanley attack managed just 8 goals in the 21 League games played after his departure. He scored 38 goals for Peterborough, becoming top scorer in Division Three in 1962-63 with 30 League goals for Posh and Coventry C., having joined the Sky Blues when Jimmy Hill surprised by replacing Terry Bly with Hudson. George continued to prove his worth and netted 25 goals in just 32 appearances as Coventry C. won the Third Division championship in 1963-64. Two years later, in March 1966, Northampton T. required his services in order to save themselves from dropping out of the First Division and although the mission failed George did score six goals in 11 games. He played a few seasons for Tranmere R. whom he helped to promotion from Division 4 in 1966-67, and ended his League career with 308 appearances (plus one sub) and 167 goals. He later worked as a printer at the Daily Mirror in Manchester.
